Rejection Recall FAQFinder with sense tagging FAQFinder without sense tagging Figure 4: Recall vs. Rejection for FAQFinder with and without WordNet Sense Tagging search. In FAQFinder, sense tagging and calculation of semantic similarity are much more computationally intensive than term vector processing. However, since FAQFinder matches single questions rather than entire documents, the computational complexity has not been an issue. Extending our approach to matching of HTML documents would probably only be feasible if we extracted key portions of documents, such as titles or portions of the body marked with certain HTML tags.

The Use of WordNet Sense Tagging in FAQFinder
FAQFinder is a Web-based, natural language question-answering system. It answers a user’s question by searching the Usenet Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) files for a similar FAQ question, and displaying its answer to the user. To find the most similar FAQ question, FAQFinder measures similarity in part by using WordNet (Miller, 1990). To increase the accuracy of the similarity metric, we have...

One useful way to find the answer to a question is to search a library of previously-answered questions. This is the idea behind FAQFinder, a Web-based natural language questionanswering system which uses Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) files to answer users’ questions. FAQFinder tries to answer a user’s question by retrieving a similar FAQ question, if one exists, and its answer. FAQFinder us...
متن کاملSense Tagging: Semantic Tagging with a Lexicon
Sense tagging, the automatic assignment of the appropriate sense from some lexicon to each of the words in a text, is a specialised instance of the general problem of semantic tagging by category or type. We discuss which recent word sense disambiguation algorithms are appropriate for sense tagging. It is our belief that sense tagging can be carried out effectively by combining several simple, ...

متن کاملWord Sense Disambiguation For Acquisition Of Selectional Preferences
The selectional preferences of verbal predicates are an important component of lexical information useful for a number of NLP tasks including disambigliation of word senses. Approaches to selectional preference acquisition without word sense disambiguation are reported to be prone to errors arising from erroneous word senses. Large scale automatic semantic tagging of texts in sufficient quantit...
